Description

This is a great quality, easy to build, carved top, set-neck LP-styled dual humbucker pickup electric guitar kit. These kits go together easily, all the parts work together well, and the instrument can be assembled without a lot of experience with woodworking or instrument building.

If you choose, every hole is drilled for each component, including bridge, stop tail piece, pickup mounting rings, rear control covers, tuner screw holes, and strap button mounting holes. If you choose the optional snap together wiring, then no soldering is required; all electronics connect together with easy to attach connectors. We have done most of the hard work for you! The body is well sanded out of the box, but will need light sanding before finishing; no filling should be required.

The top of this LP-styled guitar body is carved, with a spalted maple top layer. The top woods vary pretty widely – but all are interesting and will do great with clear or tinted finish! The pictures show a few examples of these top woods. The neck is a glue in (set) neck. The guitar kit comes with black hardware, high quality Gotoh tuners, Gotoh LP-style TOM bridge and stop tail piece, two humbucker pickups, and all necessary screws and hardware. A set of strings and a cable are even included.

You have your choice of chrome hardware with cream plastics (cover plates and humbucker rings) or black hardware with black plastics.

We no longer have these kits available with Rosewood fingerboards because of restrictions on importing and exporting this wood due to the CITES treaty. Instead, we offer all ebony fingerboards! They look great and feel great! (Sorry that some of out pictures still show rosewood fingerboards; we are working to correct this.)

This is not a cheap Chinese manufactured kit of questionable quality where the parts simply don’t work together (like many of the kits that you will find on Ebay, Etsy and Amazon). We proudly manufacture these kits in our shop in Portland, Oregon. We are a family-owned company building products and traditions that we expect to last for a long, long time. We produce instrument kits with exacting specifications, high quality production, and domestic, sustainably-cultivated sources of materials whenever possible.

The process of building our kit guitars and basses is straight forward and requires little experience in woodworking or in instrument building. The entire instrument can be assembled with a few simple tools. Setting the instrument up for your playing style is also straightforward. We will guide you though the basic process in our instruction manual. For more complex or particular setup requirements, we suggest that you work with a professional for setup - just as you would with any instrument that you purchase.

Tools needed for assembly:

  • Philips #1 and #2 screwdrivers
  • wire clippers (to trim strings)
  • string radius gauge (we provide one with the kit)

The process of finishing the instrument can be very simple or very complex. See our guitar finishing pages for some pointers. You will need:

  • 200+ grit sandpaper or sanding blocks
  • finish of your choice

We offer several options to allow you to tailor your guitar to your guitar building experience and your goals for your instrument, depending on the exact kit model:

  • Pickups: All of our instruments come with good basic pickups. We offer you options to change these pickups for several optional pickup sets. Note that these optional pickups will not come pre-wired/soldered. Soldering of these pickups will be required.
  • Wiring: If you chose the optional snap together wiring, then all of our instruments come pre-wired and pre-soldered, so that you can assemble the instrument without needing to do any soldering. You simply snap a few connectors together to complete the electrical connections before you screw down the pickguard, control panel, and output jack plate. This is detailed on the guitar kit wiring and hole drilling description page. If you would prefer to not have your kit pre-wired and pre-soldered, please let us know.
  • Drilling: If you so choose, then every guitar kit comes with some holes pre-drilled for you. However, we offer you the option to not have some holes drilled at the factory. This is detailed on the guitar kit wiring and hole drilling description page.
